Haunted by ghosts of the past

Like most old buildings with a rich colourful history, it's not surprising that we have a few guests from other realms.

When construction on the theatre started, the original owners and staff started to notice strange things going on and soon realised the theatre was haunted.  Shortly after opening the theatre, staff, artists and crew all reported the sound of footsteps along the hallway, whispering and disembodied voices in the vault, the sound of furniture being moved and, on rare occasions, the image of a man standing in the doorway! On one occasion, a dancer saw him walk through the curtains backstage and stand in the corner.

We have learned that the ghost is that of the former bank manager, Quinton, who lived in the private residence in the back part of the building, and who tragically took his own life when he became destitute due to the bank's closure.

During a tour of the theatre, a spirit medium picked up the spirit of a girl called Emily who visits the vault. Staff have also heard on occasion, the voice of a little girl in the lower levels under the theatre.

Quinton is present throughout the theatre and often plays tricks with the theatre's lights. You may glimpse him walking around the halls or standing on the staircase.

The best place to experience him is to stand in the vault alone...if you dare.

More recently, staff were discussing moving the portraits which have hung in the entrance stairwell for many years. The next morning when the theatre was unlocked, three of the portraits were found smashed at the bottom of the stairs.

We like to believe that he likes to hang around and watch the shows every week.
